The Board reminds all to take precautions during the current snow storm and review
the Winter Safety Tips located under the Seasonal Items. Also, please be reminded
that there is no parking on the roadways. Thank you for your cooperation.
As in past years, one or more units experienced loss of gas service due to damage
caused by icing from rain or falling water, snow and ice from roofs. Nstar made repairs
and replaced the meters and other components on a building this week after residents
noticed a smell of gas and loss of heat, hot water, and oven operations. They smartly
left the units and called Nstar. We have had a notice on the LEC website under Seasonal
Items of Interest providing directions from Nstar. In the past, many residents installed
some form of protection for their gas meters and pipes outside the buildings. Please
assess your situation and act accordingly. No permanent or unsightly structure should
be installed over the meters/pipes.
Also note that a few units experienced frozen water pipes going up to the 2nd floor
bath room. While this was unrelated to any gas outage, the possibility exists of
of a water pipe bursting if the furnace goes out in frigid winter temperatures.
